I was lucky enough to be going on the course with one of my best friends Heather (you can find her blog here: heatherlouisethomas.blogspot.com )When we woke up on Monday morning we were both nervous but really excited. Our hotel was literally a minute and a half walk to the Pixiwoo Studio, but walking there that morning felt even longer.
We were a bit early so we decided to nip to the shop for a few bits, when we made our way to the studio door we were greeted by Sam who was so friendly and I knew from that moment that herself, Nic and Stacey would probably all be really relaxed and friendly...and I was right!
Sam got in the lift with us, and I've never seen Heather look so star struck (Sam is a massive inspiration to Heather so I can only imagine how she felt)
We got into the studio where Nic was busy getting sorted, but just like Sam she was super friendly. Then we met Stacey, and you guessed it...really friendly! Stacey deals with all the organisation of the course so you always chat to her on emails, it's nice to be able to put a face to a name though.
We waited for all the other girls to arrive (there was 12 of us in total) and then the day began. I remember turning to Heather and saying 'I feel so sick' but that soon passed!
So day 1 was all about natural make up and how to create a flawless looking base.
Nic demonstrated on Stacey whilst talking us through everything she was doing.
It's hard to put into words everything she taught us as there was so much to take in.
We learnt all about different skin types and what products you should use on them. After the demonstration it was time to get into pairs and practice on each other.
Now if you're like me and never done make up on someone other than yourself before, it's really daunting having to touch someone else's face, and ultimately end up doing something that you might like but they might hate.
I was paired up with a girl called Polly, who was so lovely and kept telling me to have more confidence in what I was doing!
I think the bit I struggled most with was putting mascara on someone else. However we were taught that there's nothing wrong with asking your client to put their own mascara on. I know I would prefer to do it myself rather than have someone poke you in the eye. It's also really important to apply enough pressure on their face that they're confident you know what your doing. If you go too lightly (which I did to begin with) they might think you're really unsure of what you're doing - which isn't good.
I stupidly forgot to take photos of the make up I did on Polly, but I was proud of it.
At the end of the day we had a bit of time left, so Nic demonstrated how to put gel eyeliner on someone, then Stacey demonstrated the way she would do it. They also both demonstrated their ways of putting red lip liner on people. Red lips and eyeliner are harder to do than you think when you're a novice!
The day was over so quickly, and that's the way the whole week went.
After we finished at 4pm me and Heather headed out in to Norwich for some tea, then back to the hotel to compare notes (eager beavers) ready for the second day!
This is one of the only photos I got of the first day.
I'll upload a blog everyday for the whole make up course.
